Teachers! There isn’t a more anxiety-provoking day than the first day of school. Am I right? With so much uncertainty (and excitement) about the first day, we want to make sure we’re over prepared and that our lessons shine on those first days so that we can set a positive tone. That’s why I want to share some of my tips and tricks and give you sneak peak at my beginning of the year team building activities and ice breakers.

During the first weeks of school, I typically have two priorities. First, I want my students to feel excited about school. Second, I want to set the right tone for the year. I want them to know their teacher is kind and fun, yet firm. I also want them to know that they will have a lot of fun in our class, but that they must also be kind to one another because we are a family.

One of the best things I have ever done with my students is reinforce family and build community on those first few days of school. I do it through beginning of the year team building activities and ice breakers.

Most teachers understand that the first days of school are critical for establishing a culture of community. Beginning of the year activities and ice breakers will help you acheive that. It will set the right tone for the rest of the year and promote a positive classroom learning environment.

To do this, you have to come out of the gate and build those positive relationships on the first few days of school. This will build a sense of community in the classroom and motivate students to participate and engage. In addition, building a community within your classroom will help your students feel safe to learn and grow. But remember, this sense of community doesn’t just happen on its own.
